Young triathletes ready to compete in Trinidad and Tobago


Young triathletes Malcolm Menzies and Launy Duncombe will have a chance to test themselves against some competition from around the world when they take part in the 2024 World Triathlon Development Regional Cup Trinidad and Tobago at the Buccoo Goat Racing Facility, in Buccoo, Tobago, on Saturday.



Menzies and Duncombe are ready to join the action. These young triathletes are participants in the World Triathlon Development training camp for the Caribbean and have been working on their skills with Coach Dorian Roach and Coach Jorge Marcos, over this past week.

The stage is set for one of the most exhilarating sporting events of the year, as the 2024 CARIFTA Triathlon, Aquathlon, and Mixed Relay Championships prepare to ignite the Caribbean from August 17th and 18th with high-energy, action-packed races. KAMI ROACH WINS 2 SILVER 

Kami Roach wins Silver Medal in both the time trial and road race at the 2023 Cycling Championships Junior of Caribbean in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Duncombe, Roach win national triathlon titles

Already set to represent The Bahamas at the Commonwealth Youth Games this summer, Launy Duncombe and Kami Roach powered their way to win the Bahamas Triathlon Association (BTA) National Triathlon titles at Goodman’s Bay on Sunday.


It was the final CARIFTA triathlon qualifier and the CARIFTA team will be ratified at a later date. The association also hosted its aquathlon championships on Saturday. The final CARIFTA qualifier for that event is set for later this month.


Duncombe, who trains on Grand Bahama, said he was happy to finally get the win. The Goodman’s Bay course is the same course that will be used for the upcoming CARIFTA Triathlon and Aquathlon Championships.

Bahamas Triathlon Association hosts National Championships

The Bahamas Triathlon Association was able to put on its national championships despite inclement weather at Jaws Beach on Sunday. Armando Moss was the overall men’s winner and punched his ticket to Birmingham, England, for the 22nd Commonwealth Games this summer.


The national championships also served to provide junior athletes with an opportunity to qualify for CARIFTA. The team will be ratified later.


President of the BTA, Dorian Roach, said the championships was good as the weather held up.

Triathlon Nationals On Jaws Beach

JASON Costelloe, Ralph Wood and Ellen Morgan were among the biggest winners in the Bahamas Triathlon Association’s 2019 National Championships.



Held on Sunday morning at Jaws Beach, the event featured four different categories with almost 100 competitors participating.

Triathlon Nationals set for this weekend

The Bahamas Triathlon Association (BTA) will host its national championships on Sunday, May 15 at Jaws Beach, and the first portion of the nationals, which encompasses swimming, gets underway at 6 a.m.


The meet is a CARIFTA and Commonwealth Games qualifying event. The 2022 CARIFTA Triathlon and Aquathlon Championships is slated for September 23-24 at Clearwater Beach, Southside, Bermuda. The Commonwealth Games will be held from July 28 to August 8 in Birmingham, England.

The Bahamas wins medals at 2019 Caribbean Triathlon Championships

It was a good showing by The Bahamas at the 2019 Caribbean Age Group Triathlon held in Key Biscayne, Miami, Florida, on Sunday, as the team secured some medals.


Ellen Morgan won a gold medal in the women’s sprint triathlon, finishing in 1:05:12.42. Her time in the water was 8:31. She clocked 29:46 on the bike and posted a time of 23:26 in the run.


Finishing second behind Morgan was Sandra Postma. Postma was at least four minutes behind Morgan, finishing in 1:10:02.56. Finishing third was Jorja Jalim in 1:13:05.50.


Earlier this month, Morgan won the female title at the 2019 Bahamas National Triathlon Championships at Jaws Beach, finishing in 1:16:27.

Jorge Marcos repeats as National Triathlon Champion

It was a bittersweet moment for Jorge Marcos as he repeated as national champion after he posted a time of 2:07:33 at the 2nd Commonwealth Bank National Triathlon Championship at Jaws Beach on Sunday, but he wasn’t the overall winner.


 


Trinidad and Tobago’s Jason Costelloe crossed the finish line first overall in a time of 2:03:11. They did an Olympic course which was 1,500 meters (m) of swimming, 26 miles biking and six miles of running.
